Kenai Peninsula
Pre- or Post-Trip, 7 Days
Glittering glaciers, lush forests of spruce and aspen, and waterways teeming with salmon make the Kenai Peninsula an outdoors enthusiast's paradise. On a seven-day pre- or post-trip extension, hike in Chugach National Forest and Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, ride a dog sled across a glacier, spend a day fishing for salmon if you choose, and raft through beautiful scenery on the Kenai River.Itinerary - 7 Days
Day 1 — Anchorage, Alaska
Arrive in Anchorage and check into the hotel. Join fellow travelers for a welcome dinner at a restaurant downtown.

Day 2 — Anchorage/Kenai Peninsula
Trace Turnagain Arm, where eagles and whales can often be spotted, and venture into the mountains on the drive to Kenai Peninsula this morning. Set off on a hike and enjoy a picnic lunch on the trail.

Day 3 — Kenai Peninsula
Spend the day rafting down the Kenai River, on the lookout for eagles, salmon, trout, and maybe a moose or bear. Stop for a picnic on the banks of the river.

Day 4 — Kenai Peninsula
Today you may choose between a fishing excursion or a day hike. Our anglers will set up shop along the Kenai River to fish for salmon with a local guide (must be 12 years old or over to participate). Hikers will trek into Chugach National Forest or Kenai National Wildlife Refuge to spot wildlife and take in breathtaking views.

Day 5 — Girdwood
Travel to Girdwood, a ski town nestled amid jagged peaks. Fly to a glacier and take a ride across the ice on a dog sled. Then board a tram to the top of Mt. Alyeska to gaze at a panorama of sparkling glaciers and rugged mountains.

Day 6 — Girdwood/Anchorage
This morning, go on a hike with a naturalist, pan for gold at a local mine, or relax at the hotel. Pay a visit to the Alaska Native Heritage Center this afternoon before gathering for a farewell dinner.

Day 7 — Anchorage/Sitka, Juneau, or home
Transfer to the airport for your flight home, or fly to Sitka or Juneau to meet the group for your expedition in Alaska's Inside Passage.

Extension Costs
Kenai pre-trip extensions aboard the National Geographic Sea Bird and post-trip extensions aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion require one additional night's lodging not included in the extension cost which also excludes internal Alaska airfare.
Price is per person, double occupancy. For a single cabin in 2010, add $2,110.
