Discover the idyllic landscapes and archaeological treasures of Santorini while staying at one of island’s most exquisite properties, Kapari Natural Resort, a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World. Explore the ruins of ancient Akrotiri, an important Minoan Bronze Age settlement that was buried by volcanic ash, and examine treasures excavated from the site at the Museum of Prehistoric Thira. Soak up the island's indelible charms as you explore the winding alleyways of Imerovigli, a whitewashed village stacked high above Santorini's caldera.
Itinerary - 3 Days
Day 1 — Athens/Santorini
Board a local flight from Athens to Santorini, a crescent-shaped archipelago created from the remnants of a collapsed volcano caldera. The island is home to one of the most important prehistoric settlements in the Aegean—Akrotiri, which was buried in volcanic ash some 3,600 years ago and rediscovered in 1967. Explore this Minoan Bronze Age site, encountering the well-preserved ruins of multi-storied buildings, roads, and drainage systems. Continue to the picturesque village of Imerovigli and settle into Kapari Natural Resort—part of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World collection—where exquisitely restored cave-built rooms overlook the caldera's indigo waters. Spend the remainder of the evening at leisure, exploring the narrow lanes of Imerovigli or taking in a Grecian sunset from one of the hotel's terraces. Kapari Natural Resort (B,L)
Day 2 — Santorini
Wake up to spectacular views of the Aegean and have breakfast at our hotel. Then travel to the Museum of Prehistoric Thira, which houses many archaeological treasures excavated from Akrotiri and other sites throughout the Aegean. Take a guided tour of the museum, examining fragments of ancient frescoes, pottery, and jewelry, as well as fossilized olive leaves preserved in lava. Gather for lunch, followed by free time to explore the island or enjoy the exceptional amenities at our hotel. At Kapari Natural Resort, you’ll enjoy an exclusive opportunity—available only to National Geographic guests—to visit a nearby farm where much of the hotel restaurant's food is sourced. Stroll through the fields and gardens with the owner, sampling freshly plucked produce along the way. Kapari Natural Resort (B,L)
