Itinerary - 15 Days
Day 1 — Jakarta
Arrive at any time. Transfer to hotel
included.
Days 2 & 3 — Jakarta/Bogor
Enjoy a guided
city tour of Jakarta including the old city, Fathaillah
Square, and the harbor. In the afternoon, depart for
Bogor, which boasts a stunning volcanic backdrop of imposing
Mount Salak. The next day, visit the Botanical Garden
in Bogor, a world-famous institution for research and
conservation that’s home to 13,983 different kinds of
trees and plants. With a local guide, tour the gardens
and the zoological museum before continuing to
a gong factory to see how these unique instruments
are made by local blacksmiths. Enjoy your afternoon
at leisure. (2B)
Day 4 — Bandung
Drive to Bandung and enjoy
an afternoon city walk through the former Batavia area.
Stroll by colonial buildings and tour the Sunda Kelapa
Harbour. Later, listen to the sounds of the angklung, a traditional bamboo instrument. (1B)
Day 5 — Magelang
Travel by private vehicle and train as you
enjoy the stunning landscapes of Java. Arrive in Magelang
in the evening. (1B)
Day 6 — Magelang/Yogyakarta
Rise
before dawn to visit the Buddhist temple complex of
Borobudur. Enjoy the sunrise before touring these stunning
ruins. Afterward, continue on to the village of Candirejo.
Stop in at one of the houses to meet some locals and
enjoy a drink and a snack. Continue to Yogyakarta
for the evening. (1B)
Days 7 & 8 — Yogyakarta
Explore
Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple complex in Java,
and learn about its history. Marvel at what
is considered some of the most stunning Hindu art in Asia. Return to Yogyakarta and enjoy the evening
at leisure. The next morning, learn about batik, an ancient method of decorating fabric that originated in Java. Delve into the
history and tradition of this art form and the Javanese
philosophy behind some of the patterns, then enjoy
hands-on instruction by a local artist. During a free afternoon, opt to hop on a cycle-rickshaw and
explore, visit Kraton Palace, or wander the markets and
shops around the city. (2B)
Day 9 — Yogyakarta/Malang
Continue the journey by train across the green agricultural
heartland of Java to Malang. (1B)
Day 10 — Malang/Mount Bromo
Visit Ngadas, a village in the scenic Mount Bromo
region. Experience the local culture in this G Adventures-supported
community with a village walk and local
lunch. Then visit the volcanology center near Mount Bromo
and meet with one of the experts who will explain how
they monitor the volcano. (1B, 1L)
Day 11 — Mount Bromo/Bali
Rise early to take a scenic excursion to Bromo Tengger
Semeru National Park by jeep to catch the sunrise. Then
ascend to the top of Mount Bromo, part of the Tengger
Caldera, the largest volcanic range in the area. Afterward,
drive to Surabaya and catch our flight to Bali. (1B)
Days 12 & 13 — Ubud
Enjoy a cooking class with a local chef who will
accompany us to the morning markets and on a visit to
a rice field. Then we’ll gather at our chef’s home to make
a traditional offering, followed by a lively cooking class
and lunch. The afternoon and next day are free to
explore. (2B, 1L)
Day 14 — Ubud/Sanur
Explore the spiritual side
of Bali, following mountain roads through the jungle to
visit Tirta Empul Temple and its bubbling springs, believed
to hold curative powers. Continue to Gunung Kawi,
an 11th-century temple complex surrounded by terraced rice fields. Then make your way to Kintamani, perched
4921 feet above sea level on the edge of a crater
overlooking Lake Batur. Also enjoy lunch at the
G Adventures-supported Bali Community Training
Lunch Program. Opt to join our CEO for a farewell
dinner at Pecatu Hill, overlooking the lights of Kuta
and the largest Vishnu statue in the world. (1B, 1L)
Day 15 — Sanur
Depart at any time. (1B)
