Step into the mists of Costa Rica's Monteverde Cloud Forest on a four-day pre-trip excursion and discover a wealth of rare flora and fauna in a truly spectacular setting. Spot colorful birds, delicate orchids, and teeming butterflies on hikes and canopy walks in the jungle.

Itinerary - 4 Days

Day 1 — Miami/San Jose, Costa Rica

Depart Miami, arriving in San Jose in the afternoon. Transfer to the hotel and gather this evening for a welcome dinner.

Days 2 & 3 — Monteverde Cloud Forest

Travel north into the mountains to Monteverde Cloud Forest. As its name suggests, the forest is often shrouded in clouds, and the cool year-round moisture endows it with fascinating flora, including more than 300 species of orchid. Hike into the jungle to see a rich array of unusual butterflies, birds, and insects, and keep an eye out for the rare quetzal. Take a walk in the forest canopy on a series of suspension bridges, and learn about the early community of Monteverde with Marvin Rockwell, one of the original homesteaders.

Day 4 — Monteverde/Herradura

After a morning to further explore the park, transfer to Herradura and embark and join the group to board the Sea Lion.
