Itinerary - 12 Days
Day 1 — Yogyakarta
Arrive at any time.
Transfer to the hotel and enjoy a welcome
Days 2 & 3 — Yogyakarta
Take in the city’s
sights during a leisurely bicycle rickshaw ride.
See the Sultan’s Palace, colorful markets, and
batik workshops. Then embark on an excursion
to the Buddhist temple complex of Borobudur. Examine the artistic and
architectural marvels of this UNESCO World
Heritage site, which once lay buried under layers
of volcanic ash. (2B)
Days 4 & 5 — Solo (Surakarta)
Take a tour of
Prambanan, the largest Hindu temple complex
in Java. Continue on to Solo and visit the
Mangkunegaran Palace for a traditional dance
class and high tea. The next day, travel to Mount
Lawu to visit the Candi Cetho and Candi Sukuh
Days 6 & 7 — Malang
Journey to the beautiful
colonial city of Malang, the second largest city
in East Java. The next morning, hop in a jeep to
catch the sunrise at Bromo Tengger Semeru
National Park. Ascend to the top of Mount
Bromo—part of the Tengger
Caldera, the largest volcanic range in the area.
Later, visit the volcanology office to meet with
one of the researchers and learn about the
geology of this beautiful area. (2B, 1L)
Day 8 — Ubud
Catch a flight and transfer to
Ubud, the cultural and artistic heart of Bali and
our base for the next three nights. (1B)
Days 9 & 10 — Ubud
Venture into markets and
rice fields with a local chef to discover the
secrets of Balinese cuisine. Then roll up your
sleeves for a fun cooking class and learn how to
prepare a traditional meal. The next day, explore
spiritual Bali, following mountain roads through
the jungle to visit Tirta Empul Temple and its
bubbling spring, said to hold curative powers.
Continue to the 11th-century Gunung Kawi,
an ancient Balinese monument surrounded by
terraced rice fields, and the village of Kintamani,
perched on the edge of a giant crater. (2B, 1L)
Day 11 — Sanur
Head to the coastal village of
Sanur and enjoy free time with the option to
visit a beautiful beach. (1B)
