Itinerary - 9 Days
Day 1 — Johannesburg
Arrive at any time and transfer to our guesthouse. Enjoy a traditional braai (barbecue) welcome dinner tonight. (1D)
Days 2 & 3 — Panorama Route/Kruger National Park
Take a scenic drive along the famed Panorama Route with stops at Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and God’s Window. Continue to our tented camp, located just outside Kruger National Park. The next morning, take a game drive in an open safari vehicle, spotting the abundant wildlife, from white rhinos and leopards to wild dogs and impala. Opt for another game drive or a bush walk this afternoon. In the evening, enjoy stunning views and an incredible dinner on the deck at the lodge. (2B, 1D)
Days 4 & 5 — Karongwe Private Game Reserve
Visit the G Adventures–supported Children’s Day School and Shalati Village before continuing to a private nature reserve nearby. Enjoy morning and evening open-vehicle game drives while searching for Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Meet with a researcher from the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Carnivore Conservation Programme, a project headed by National Geographic grantee Kelly Marnewick that is part of National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative. A member of Kelly’s team will tell us about their ongoing field research and join us on one of our game drives. (2B, 1L, 2D)
Day 6 — Johannesburg
After one last game drive, head back to the city. This evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner at our guesthouse. (1B, 1D)
Days 7 & 8 — Victoria Falls
Fly to Zimbabwe and take a guided tour along the trails of the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. Then walk through a local market before dinner at a family homestead. Get to know the family and share stories as we all help prepare a traditional Zimbabwean dinner. The next day, enjoy free time for optional activities, including a river safari, whitewater rafting, canoeing, or even a flight over the falls. (2B, 1D)
