Enjoy a nine-day highlights tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe. Go on safari in the Greater Kruger area, spotting and photographing elephants and lions on their own turf. Then jet off to Zimbabwe to take in the spectacle of Victoria Falls, where the mist can be seen 40 kilometers—or 25 miles—away. From the roar of lions to the roar of the world’s greatest waterfall, southern Africa’s wonders ring out loud and clear.
Arrive at any time and transfer to our guesthouse. Enjoy a traditional braai (barbecue) welcome dinner tonight. (1D)
Take a scenic drive along the famed Panorama Route with stops at Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, and God’s Window. Continue to our tented camp, located just outside Kruger National Park. The next morning, take a game drive in an open safari vehicle, spotting the abundant wildlife, from white rhinos and leopards to wild dogs and impala. Opt for another game drive or a bush walk this afternoon. In the evening, enjoy stunning views and an incredible dinner on the deck at the lodge. (2B, 1D)
Travel to the Karongwe Private Game Reserve, and enjoy morning and evening open-vehicle game drives while searching for Africa’s “big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and Cape buffalo. Meet with a researcher from the Endangered Wildlife Trust’s Cheetah Metapopulation Project, a project managed by National Geographic grantee Vincent van der Merwe. A member of Vincent’s team will tell us about their ongoing field research and join us on one of our game drives. (2B, 1L, 2D)
After one last game drive, head back to the city. This evening, enjoy a home-cooked dinner at our guesthouse. (1B, 1D)
Fly to Zimbabwe and gain insight into everyday life during a walk through the local market and dinner at a family homestead. The next day, take a guided tour along the trails of the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls. In the afternoon, enjoy free time for optional activities, including a river safari, canoeing, or even a flight over the falls. (2B, 1D)
