Itinerary - 11 Days
Day 1 — Lima
Arrive at any time. Arrival transfer included.
Days 2 & 3 — Sacred Valley of the Inca
Board an early flight to Cusco, then continue to the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Tour the G Adventures-supported Parque de la Papa, or Potato Park, a network of rural agricultural communities working to preserve more than 700 species of potatoes. Learn about potato cultivation and traditional weaving, and the importance of each to Andean culture. Next, explore the Pisac ruins and visit the G Adventures-supported Sacred Valley Community Restaurant in the village of Huchuy Qosqo. Discover the pre-Inca salt pans of Las Salineras. Enjoy a traditional pachamanca-style meal. (2B, 1L, 1D)
Day 4 — Aguas Calientes
Catch an early transfer to Ollantaytambo station and board the scenic train to Aguas Calientes. Opt to visit the town’s hot springs, butterfly house, or botanical garden. (1B)
Days 5 & 6 — Machu Picchu/Cusco
Enjoy a guided tour of the Machu Picchu ruins. Then explore on your own or take an optional hike to the Inca Bridge. Later, return to Cusco by train. Spend the next day exploring historic Cusco, with options to visit museums or go horseback riding or paragliding. This evening, glimpse the night sky through the telescopes of the Cusco Planetarium. Day 7 — Iquitos
Take an early morning flight to the bustling port town of Iquitos. Meet our local CEO for an orientation walk and dine at a restaurant specializing in Amazonian cuisine. (1B, 1D)
Day 8 — Iquitos/Amazon Cruise
Visit the renowned Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm, which has replicated the natural environment of 17 different butterfly species. Hear about their work and the importance of butterflies to the Amazon ecosystem. 70% of all the butterflies they breed are released into the wild. Then visit the Pilpintuwasi Wildlife Rescue Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting animals affected by poaching and trafficking. Learn about the work this center does in saving animals and educating local communities on wildlife conservation. After, transfer to the riverboat, our home for the next two nights. Settle in to your cabin and relax on board before attending a briefing with the ship’s crew. Our exploration begins with an evening excursion by motorized skiff. Glide along serene waterways and watch as the jungle comes alive with nocturnal species. (1B, 1L, 1D)
Day 9 — Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve
Glide into the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve on a boat excursion, searching for monkeys, sloths, macaws, and much more. This afternoon, take a walk through the jungle and visit a local community to learn about the everyday life of the people who live along the banks of the Amazon. After dinner, opt to go on a night excursion to Piranha Creek. (1B, 1L, 1D)
Day 10 — Lima
Explore the shoreline by boat, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife and a variety of birds. In the afternoon, we leave the peacefulness of the river behind and visit a manatee rescue center en route to Lima. Enjoy the evening in the city. (1B)
