Embrace the spirit of adventure and navigate this road-free isle by foot, trekking through tropical forest to encounter a multitude of endemic species—from frolicking macaco lemurs to fragrant flowers. Day 1—Antananarivo, Madagascar/Nosy Be/Nosy Komba


Fly to Nosy Be and transfer to the waterfront, where you’ll board a ferry for the ride to Tsara Komba Beach & Forest Lodge, a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World. Get settled in your thatched bungalow, surrounded by lush jungle and perched on a hillside overlooking the ocean. Toast the sunset with the bar’s legendary coconut rum punch and watch for dolphins leaping across the horizon. For dinner, savor a multi-course meal at the on-site Divine House, one of Madagascar’s finest restaurants.

Day 2—Nosy Komba


After breakfast, set off on a half-day snorkeling excursion to the Tanikely reserve, a paradise of marine biodiversity in the Mozambique Channel. Dive into turquoise waters to swim among sea turtles, brightly colored corals, and rays. This afternoon you’ll be treated to an experience exclusively reserved for National Geographic travelers. Join the lodge’s management staff for a visit to a nearby village, where you’ll meet the chief and learn about ongoing projects and everyday life in the community. Return to the lodge for a local rum tasting before a delicious Malagasy-French fusion dinner on the lodge terrace.

Day 3—Nosy Be


Join a guide and head out on a day-long private tour to explore the mangroves, beaches, and reefs of nearby islands. Visit a local fishing village on lush Nosy Mamoko, then stroll Nosy Kisimany’s secluded beaches and pick a peaceful spot for a picnic. Go snorkeling in a secluded cove off Nosy Faly where dolphins and sea turtles are often spotted. Enjoy the rest of the evening to relax, and linger over a decadent al fresco meal as the sun sets over sparkling waters.

Day 4—Nosy Be


Set out on a guided hike through Nosy Komba’s rain forest reserve. Discover endemic flora and fauna, including the island’s famous black lemurs, chameleons, and butterflies. Spend the rest of the day exploring on your own. Stroll through the Eden Garden, where hummingbirds and parrots flutter among some 200 endemic species of tropical plants; and discover the Baobab Nursery, which incubates unusual baobab species and spiny succulents. Borrow a dugout canoe to explore the island’s hidden coves, or just relax on the beach. Later, sip a sundowner cocktail as you glide through mangrove forests on a sunset boat tour.

Day 5—Nosy Be/Depart


Enjoy breakfast and a morning at leisure. Fit in one last snorkeling adventure, or simply soak up the sun on the golden sands that spread below the lodge. After lunch, board the ferry to Nosy Be, then take a private transfer to the airport. Fly to Antananarivo to connect with your flight home.
