Itinerary - 8 Days
Day 1 — Madrid
Arrive at any time.
Day 2 — Madrid/Toledo
Travel to nearby Toledo and join a local historian on a tour of its medieval center, a UNESCO World Heritage site brimming with historical churches, synagogues, mosques, and plazas. Return to Madrid and explore the city on your own. Take a seat at a sidewalk café in the bustling Plaza Mayor and watch the world go by. Or opt to visit the renowned Museo del Prado—one of the world’s greatest art museums—and the nearby botanical garden, Real Jardín Botanico. (1B)
Day 3 — Córdoba
Take the high-speed train to Córdoba and visit the Mezquita—a Catholic cathedral built within a former Moorish mosque. Afterwards, stroll the medieval Jewish quarter’s maze of winding lanes and traditional houses. Savor Córdoba’s culinary specialties at the restaurant of your choice this evening. (1B)
Days 4 & 5 — Granada
Travel to Granada and take an orientation walk. Enjoy a private flamenco lesson with a professional dancer at a local studio. Take a guided tour of the magnificent Alhambra hilltop fortress, one of the world’s greatest examples of Moorish architecture and a World Heritage site. During free time, explore the city on your own. Opt to take a segway tour around the city, wander the white-washed Albayzín quarter, or visit the Granada Cathedral—one of the largest cathedrals in Spain. (2B)
Day 6 — Ronda
Catch a train to the city of Ronda, dramatically situated above El Tajo Gorge. Descend into the gorge for views of the Puente Nuevo, and then explore the enchanting city center on your own. Get a glimpse into the history of bullfighting at the Plaza de Toros arena, descend into some of Spain’s most well-preserved ancient Arab baths, or sample Spanish tapas and wines on a self-guided tasting tour of the old town. Day 7 — Seville
Transfer to Seville and take an orientation walk. Later, explore the city on your own, or choose to join an optional activity. Climb La Giralda tower, adjacent to the world’s largest Gothic cathedral; explore the World Heritage-listed Alcázar castle and its lush gardens; or meander the winding lanes of the enchanting Santa Cruz quarter. Enjoy an optional flamenco performance this evening. (1B)
