Private Safari: Botswana and Victoria Falls

  • 12-day private safari accompanied by expert guides
  • Go on safari in the Okavango Delta and visit Victoria Falls

Expedition Details

The annual flooding of Botswana's Okavango Delta creates a lush network of tributaries and marshes and attracts a rich variety of wildlife, including species like blue wildebeest, as well as lions, cheetahs, leopards, and wild dogs. The remarkable interplay of predator and prey in the delta has been captured by National Geographic filmmakers and explorers Dereck and Beverly Joubert in a number of celebrated documentaries. Stay in two stunning camps in the very area where their documentaries were filmed, and delve into this unique habitat on day and night safaris and bush walks. Then travel to Zambia to encounter the magnificent Victoria Falls.

Trip Highlights

    • Stay in intimate luxury lodges and tented camps located within private concessions far from the crowds.
    • Track huge buffalo herds and the lions that stalk them on safari in Duba Plains.
    • Spot a broad spectrum of birdlife, including wattled cranes and slaty egrets, from an elevated hide in the Selinda Reserve.
    • Experience the thunder of Victoria Falls on a guided walk into the mists.

Days 3, 4, & 5 — Okavango Delta, Botswana

This morning, board a commercial flight to Maun, Botswana, and connect with a scheduled charter flight to the Okavango Delta. Settle into your luxury tent at Duba Plains Camp, located on a remote island in the delta, and spend the next three days on safari in Duba’s private concession area. Duba is the backdrop for National Geographic Explorers-in-Residence Dereck and Beverly Joubert’s award-winning film Relentless Enemies, which documents the ongoing conflict between three lion prides and the 1,000-strong buffalo population. On daytime and nighttime game drives, observe the interactions of lions and buffalo, watch families of elephants frolicking at the water’s edge, spot hippos swimming in the deep, and see tsessebe and blue wildebeest grazing on the plains.

Days 6, 7, & 8 — Selinda Reserve

After breakfast, head to the airstrip for a scheduled charter flight to Selinda, a 300,000-acre reserve just north of the Okavango Delta. Selinda Camp, a luxurious elevated tented camp located on the banks of the wildlife-rich Selinda Spillway, is our home for the next three nights. Set out on daily safaris, nighttime game drives, and walking safaris to observe elephants, giraffes, hippos, and much more. Featured in Dereck and Beverly Joubert’s National Geographic films Ultimate Enemies, Hunting With the Moon, and The African Diaries, the Selinda Reserve is also home to the hippo-killing lions. Track cheetahs and endangered wild dogs, and spot a wide variety of birds from an elevated hide overlooking the floodplains. Wattled cranes, a highly coveted sighting, are often spotted here. Spend your evenings gazing at the stars from your private veranda, watching the nightlife of the floodplains, or relaxing with a book in the spacious main lounge.
